Sailing is a fantastic way to experience wonderful destinations such as Greece, Turkey and Croatia. However, if you have never been sailing before you may wonder how you will get on. Most people should have no trouble adapting to their first sailing holiday, especially with the help of a qualified and experienced skipper to provide the sailing expertise. However, a few key hints and tips can help make sure your first experience atop the waves runs smoothly.

Pack Sunblock
This is more-or-less essential for any trip to a sunny Mediterranean destination, but when you take a sailing holiday it is especially important. All around you, the water will reflect back the sunlight and this means you are more at risk of sunburn. Many rays that originally missed you will hit you the second time around, which is quite unlike what happens on land. If you don’t want to end up feeling like you’ve been grilled until well done, pack strong sunblock and apply it regularly.

Time Your Journey
To get the most out of your journey, you will want to time it well. However, how you time it depends on what you want to get out of your trip. The best season for visiting the Mediterranean region is often said to be from May to October. The edges of that timeframe are quieter, while the central summer months offer the most glorious sunshine and the exciting bustle of the peak season. However, sailing in the region can be truly wonderful at any time of year, and booking outside this timeframe is a great way to dodge the worst of the crowds on the beaches.
