The Croatian town of Split, too often overlooked as simply the start or end point of a holiday, actually has plenty to entertain even the most discerning of travellers.

Seeing Croatian towns - Explore evening activities

A must-see in Split is the historic Old Town. Here stunning medieval streets lead to all sorts of wonderful things to see and do. And chief amongst the must-see destinations is the Diocletian Palace. A near perfectly preserved example of a traditional Roman building, the palace is really the heart of Split Old Town. But don’t worry: even though it is old and even though it is a palace, this area of the town is consistently buzzing with action.

In addition to the shops within the walls, there are plenty of places to eat, drink and relax. And with much of the Old Town pedestrianised, tourists can wander the cobbled streets without fear of getting in the way of any motorists. Even better is that this pedestrianised stretch reaches as far as the beautiful promenade which lines the coast.

Taking advantage of this can provide some long-lasting memories when taking a break from your Croatia sailing to enjoy some time on land. So why not find a cosy restaurant to settle down in, sample the local food, grab something to drink and watch the stunning sunset over Split Old Town?
