Croatia Sailing to the Island of Hvar

Hvar is fast becoming the number one destination for a night out in all of Europe and a must-stop on any Croatia sailing adventure. With a reputation for all-night revelry, beach parties, huge clubs and exotic bars, it isn’t hard to see why the town has grown in popularity over the last few years. And as such, you might be forgiven for thinking that this is all Hvar has to offer, but this is not the case. So when the sun rises the morning after the night before, why not take in one of these more restful activities?

Something of an uphill trek, but well worth the effort for the view, is Hvar’s Fortica. You may guess from the name that this is a fortress built above the town hundreds of years ago. Although it is no longer required as a look-out against potential invaders, it remains the best place to get a stunning all-round view of Hvar and the surrounding scenery.

Hvar is also home to a Franciscan monastery dating back to the 1400s. Housing its own museum, this is a great place to learn a little more about Hvar’s history prior to it becoming one of Europe’s nightlife hotspots.
Lastly, a walk to Hvar’s St Stephen’s Square offers a range of shops, bars and eateries for you to enjoy. And all of this can be done under the shadow of the magnificent St Stephen’s Cathedral – the perfect place to watch the world go by and (if needed!) recover from the night before.
