You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to where to visit on a sailing Turkey break, but one must-see place is the sophisticated town of Kalkan.

Visiting Turkish towns - Travelling in style

Peaceful by day but buzzing by night, Kalkan is the perfect destination for anyone wanting great views, good food and fine company. Although the town is popular, it is not overrun by tourism and as such it has retained much traditional Turkish charm. This is most notable in the architecture of the town itself – ornate wooden balconies stand out from old-fashioned villas that are truly representative of Turkey’s past.

These historic buildings are perhaps best admired from one of Kalkan’s wonderful eateries. In fact, you might find yourself struggling to choose a place, as the town has over 100 cafes, bars and restaurants in which you can relax and sample some locally sourced Turkish fare. But even though the town is packed with good places to eat and drink in, choosing one of the many rooftop terraces can offer a truly unique and special way to enjoy views of the town.

Not only that, but from here you can see the harbour, the sea and the fisherman at work – you never know, you might even spot your boat.
