Flights to Cyprus: See Aphrodites Island On Your Sailing Holiday
Cyprus is one of the most unique places to visit whilst in this part of the Mediterranean, and Cypriots call it the island of Aphrodite- how romantic! However, we find our guests’ largest obstacle to visiting the island is that they have a hard time reaching Cyprus from Athens, where our Greek sailing holidays depart from and return to.
The good news is that Cyprus Airways has recently expanded their services to include regular services to Athens, Thessaloniki, Rhodes and Heraklion. These improved transport links will truly make it possible for you to experience a taste of this part of Mediterranean culture, and at no exorbitant cost. I just searched this site myself; and spotted one way flights from Athens to Lemesos in Cyprus, during peak season, for as little as £10!
This country has an intensely rich history that comprises of many invasions and battles. It has been a hotly contested property between the Greek and Turkish armies for centuries (that is, when Roman armies hadn’t invaded it!) though it has been a republic since the 60’s. If you are able to make it to Cyprus do try to attend the Lemesos Wine Festival, an annual calendar highlight for the Cypriots who have been holding it for over 50 years! The Wine Festival in Lemesos is a revival of an ancient festival of worship in honor of Dionysus, the god of vine and wine and of course Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty and love. During these feasts man worshipped the gods but the primary focus was to enjoy themselves, and as the saying goes: “Drink wine, it gives you life!”
Remember flights from London to Athens can be purchased for as little as £90 for a return ticket early in the 2013 summer season, and a return flight in peak season starting from £165! Book flights ASAP to ensure you get a good deal for your sailing holiday.
