The area is considered one of the most tranquil and romantic in all of Greece, and it’s not hard to see why. The town itself is built into the natural amphitheatre of the gently sloping hills overlooking the clear blue seas below, and Hydra is filled with the best in traditional Greek architecture. Not only that, a ban on cars means that Hydra has perfectly preserved a far simpler way of life.

However, this does not mean that the area is so peaceful that no fun can be had. In fact, Hydra is considered something of a sailor’s paradise, with the summer months drawing plenty of boats to the island’s shore. And chief amongst the reasons for this must be Hydra’s many welcoming beaches.

Water-sports enthusiasts will be well served by both Bisti and Mandraki beaches, where there are plenty of activities to indulge in. Those who are seeking a more relaxed time will find the beaches of Spilia and Limnioniza tough to beat – indeed, the latter is considered one of the most naturally stunning beaches in all of Greece.

And after you’ve had your fill of excitement or relaxation, you can enjoy a waterfront stroll as you take in the sights on your way back to the harbour – pure bliss.
