Sailing in Greece is about relaxing, making new friends, trying new things and getting away from it all. Romantic Spetses, one of the southern-most points of Greece, also offers much in the way of fascinating Greek culture and history.

Sailing in Greece - Night time activities

Take the iconic Church of Agios Nikolaos, for example. A lasting monument of the Venetian architecture which appeared in Greece in the 14th century, this building was once considered the most important part of the town and is now a living document of the country’s rich history. Following its founding in honour of the Dominican order of monks, the church became a mosque at the time of the Ottoman Empire. Latterly, the 20th century saw the church become once again a place of Christian worship, and since then it has been dedicated to Agios Nikolaos.

In addition to this, Spetses is also home to the aptly named Paradise Beach and a range of exciting bars and clubs. Adventure-seekers can hire a scooter to explore the town but may want to make sure they preserve enough energy for one of the late-night parties that make the area so famous. And if, after all that, some reflection is required, there really is no better place to rest and relax than in the amazing building that sits at the very heart of Spetses – the Church of Agios Nikolaos.
