Greek Sailing Holidays Feature Healthy Food

In our everyday demanding lives choosing holiday destinations often becomes a tedious, confusing process. Why should I go on a Greek sailing holiday? Should I just take a stay-cation and explore Cornwall this summer?

Now there is one more reason to make sure you get to Greece this summer for a sailing holiday. The Mediterranean diet, rich in olive oil, nuts, beans, fish, fruits and vegetables, has once again proven it reduces by 30% the risk of heart attacks, strokes and deaths from heart disease, according to a recently published report in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The findings were based on the first major clinical trial to measure the diet’s effect on heart risks. The magnitude of the diet’s benefits surprised experts,  writes Gina Kolata in the New York Times, adding that the study ended early, after almost five years, because the unexpected results were so clear it was deemed unnecessary to continue.

MedSailors skippers are dab hands in the kitchen and ensure our guests have access to the freshest Mediterranean favourites and cuisine every day. According to the research findings, extra-virgin olive oil and nuts were probably responsible for most of the observed benefits of the Mediterranean diets- both of which you will have oodles of on your sailing holiday!
