Whilst some people manage to breeze through every aspect of a holiday, from the planning to the packing and the departure and so on, others are not quite so lucky. So if you are someone who worries a little too much about the logistics, or someone whose anticipation demands perfection, follow this advice designed to make your holiday preparation and your time sailing Turkey’s seas completely trouble-free.

Dealing with your first sailing holiday - How to prepare

One mistake many holiday-makers fall foul of is over-estimating their ability to tan. Yes, coming home a golden brown colour is what many tourists desire, but it must be done safely. If you are lucky enough to live somewhere with a clement climate, you can begin training your skin to be exposed to the sun before you arrive on deck. Whether this applies to you or not, you must take the proper precautions to protect your skin on holiday. After all, if you manage to get sunburn and sunstroke within the first few hours, you’re not going to be able to make the most of your time away!

Another thing you can do prior to departure is prepare your body clock for any time differences between home and abroad. This can be as simple as having a slightly earlier bed time or (what a treat!) having an extra lie-in. Doing this can mean that your body clock is ready to enjoy everything your sailing holiday has to offer.

Lastly, avoiding the attraction of stuffing your face with too much food and drinking more than you would at home really is a must. Yes, you should let your hair down, and yes, you should relax and enjoy the local delicacies, but spending the majority of your break with a vicious hangover is not the way to have a holiday you’ll never forget. And that’s exactly what your sailing adventure should be.
