Welcome Croatia Festival 2013 Celebrates Croatian Culture
For a festival of an altogether more cultivated and grown up nature, and perhaps an alternative addition to a Croatia tour, Croatia is celebrating its entry into the European Union with an incredible 6-month cultural festival called Welcome Croatia 2013! The festival will consist of a series of high profile events in the first half of 2013, ending with the Croatian National Day celebrations at the end of June and EU membership on July 1 2013.
This massive endeavor will introduce the foreign and domestic public to a wide variety of Croatian cultural activities, celebrating Croatian life and progress. Areas to be covered will include film, visual arts, sport, food and wine, theatre, photography, music, archaeology and history, and will be delivered through exhibitions, talks, seminars and competitions.
The first of these events will be held right here in London, close to MedSailors HQ, at the British Council Gallery between 7 and 27 January 2013. Entitled Shared Innovation, this exhibition celebrates the collaboration between the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, Royal College of Art, the Croatian Designers’ Association and the School of Design, University of Zagreb. Shared Innovation will showcase the success of the Extra / ordinary Design Workshops – a British Council project that has been active in Croatia since 2011. This project uses mainstream design and design-led inclusive processes to help transform organisations run by, employing or educating socially marginalised groups and who have supported their struggle in challenging economic times.
