When to Take a Sailing Holiday in the Mediterranean
With its calm warm waters, the Mediterranean is the ideal cruising spot – easy to navigate and perfect for a relaxed sailing holiday. Combined with its array of coastal attractions, encompassing ancient ruins, bustling cities and some of the best beaches in the world, there really is no better place for a boating break, especially at the right time of year.
Weather and traffic are the two main factors that can affect your Mediterranean experience and, depending on what you are after, it is certainly worthwhile taking these factors into account.
Summer tends to present the most favourable of conditions to sail, lasting from late May to mid October. Temperatures, with the exception of the month period from July to August, are the most favourable at this point in the year, generally hovering anywhere between 22 and 30 degrees on the water.
Peak season falls between mid-July to the end of August and it is at this time of year that the sea and its ports are the busiest, filled with every type of tourist imaginable. Unless you are after a serene sort of stay, this is the way to experience the Mediterranean, at a time when it is at its liveliest. Parties run until the early hours, both onshore and onboard the luxury yachts harboured around, and local festivals and feast days bring a carnival atmosphere to proceedings. All this combined creates an ambience that ensures your sailing holiday is an unforgettable one.
