A Visit to Spetses When Sailing in Greece
The island of Spetses is a great example of Greece at its best. Although it is relatively easy to access, it has a calmness and tranquillity about it which make it seem as if you are in another world.
This relaxed atmosphere is partly created by a lack of car horns, traffic jams and exhaust emissions on the island. Private vehicles are not permitted, and locals and tourists alike favour some of the more old-fashioned modes of transport. Taking a buggy, riding a horse or simply walking around the island can uncover some truly special sights. Indeed, Spetses is home to a number of historically and culturally significant landmarks that are representative of Greece’s heritage.
If you would rather soak up the relaxed nature of Spetses in a more laid-back way, there are a number of beaches ideal for doing not much at all! In addition to the golden sand, there are plenty of hidden coves to be discovered when swimming in the crystal-clear waters.
Spetses is also famed for its water-side restaurants specialising in locally caught fish and seafood. What better way to spend an afternoon or evening than enjoying the peace and quiet of the island before settling down for some truly traditional Greek delicacies? It’s a perfect way to spend some time before continuing sailing in Greece’s blue seas.
