1. Soak up some culture

What better way to get a feel for the history of this ancient town than a look around a few of their magnificent museums and art galleries? We particularly recommend the Split Town Museum, the Mestrovic Gallery, and the Archaeological Museum.

2. Join the locals for an early morning walk around Green Market

With punnets of fresh strawberries and cherries available, you won’t regret even the briefest of wanders around this open-air market.

3. Enjoy an evening of fresh seafood, best served with a glass of white wine

If fresh fish and seafood make your heart sing, you’ll be spoilt for choice. If you’re really dedicated, we recommend having a wander around the daily fish market to see what takes your fancy!

4. Walk in the footsteps of Roman emperors

One of seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Croatia, the Diocletian Palace dates back to the 4th century and is every bit as impressive as you would imagine.

5. Actually, you NEED to see the whole of the Old Town

It’s full of elegant ancient architecture, a Cathedral that provides stunning city views, an open-air pavilion that’s best enjoyed during the evening, countless cafes, and one of the narrowest streets is very aptly named Let Me Pass Street. We see what they did there. Clever!

6. Try your luck in a game of picigin

If you’re sunning yourself on the beach and happen to look up to see people leaping around in the shallows trying to keep a small ball from touching the seawater, you’re witnessing Split’s traditional ball game that was first played in 1908. It’s extremely fun and you’re VERY likely to find a group of locals willing to give you a rundown of the rules, especially on Bacvice beach!

7. Spend at least one of your evenings with a night-time stroll along the Riva

The perfectly presented promenade is packed with sweet souvenir shops, endearing eateries and bustling bars. Sit back, do some people watching, connect with some of the locals, and soak in the beautiful views of the Adriatic. You won’t regret it!

8. Sail away into the sunset

What can we say about seeing the sun set whilst out on the ocean? Three words: living the dream!
