Croatia’s islands really do offer something for everyone, and one of the islands that provides something quite unique for holiday-goers is Mljet. It’s one of the more southern islands, and the appeal of Mljet lies in its breath-taking natural beauty.
Around two-thirds of the island is completely covered in lush green forests, with the remainder filled by fertile fields, traditional vineyards and welcoming villages. The vegetation is some of the best in the Mediterranean and, when seen alongside the clear blue seas and soft sandy shores, it creates some truly memorable scenery. And it has seen Mljet gain a reputation as one of the country’s most beautiful locations and a must-see place when enjoying a Croatia sailing holiday.
Lovers of myths and legends will have no trouble believing that Odysseus found refuge in the seclusion of the island and stayed for a number of years in its forests and coves. The beauty of the island is now celebrated and preserved in the National Park, which contains two salt water lakes and a raft of activities for visiting tourists.
Swimming in these inland lakes is an option, but there are also a number of pretty beaches for both locals and tourists to enjoy. Steeped in history, Mljet is a great place in which to relax and unwind when enjoying your Croatian break.
