You know, Instagram’s got a lot to answer for, trapping us in an endless stream of stunning travel photographs and tempting us all to dig out our passports and escape on the holiday of a lifetime. We can’t be the only ones this happens to on a daily basis, but we’ve decided to join in and put together a list of our favourite European islands to tempt you to dig out your passport for a sailing trip of a lifetime!

The history and heritage of the Greek islands is so spectacular, the atmosphere will charm and sweep you off your feet as soon as you arrive. People have called this island home since 3,000 BC and one look around this incredible landscape will very quickly tell you why.

From ancient ruins to a lit nightlife, get you an island that can do both, right?! Seriously though, you can spend your days strolling around the 16th century castle or climb up to the island’s fortress that has protected the island since the 13th century, before hitting the town and watching the sunset from a rooftop bar that has become the haunt of every A-lister when they’re in town. On an island where motor vehicles are strictly prohibited and donkeys are the main form of transportation (yes, really!), you already know you’re going to be in for a treat. Think cobbled streets, the scent of fruit trees in the air and pure tranquillity. Bliss!
