Stari Grad: Discovering Hvar’s Hidden Gem While Sailing Croatia

By MedSailors Crew published on 25 December 2015

While the location of Hvar Town is getting quite a reputation for itself among fun-loving holiday-goers, it seems that other parts of the island are getting ignored. This is a real shame because the area of Stari Grad is a fascinating place to spend a few hours.

Offering a slightly more peaceful way of life than the lively Hvar, Stari Grad is steeped in fascinating history. It is one of the oldest towns in Croatia, and there is a little bit of tradition and culture around every corner. Chief among the historical sights is the impressive Tvrdalj, parts of which date back to the 16th century.

Croatian island tours - Beautiful towns and bays

But if history isn’t really your thing, you might want to explore Stari Grad by making your way down to the curved bay around which the town is built. There are plenty of hidden coves in which you can have your own adventure, making the area ideal for the most exciting of sailing Croatia breaks. And if lounging in the sun is the order of the day, there are a number of sandy beaches only metres from the town centre.

So if the hustle and bustle of Hvar Town gets too much, rest assured that relaxation and tranquillity are nearby in Stari Grad.
