Staying Safe on a Sailing Holiday

By MedSailors Crew published on 13 January 2016

Sailing holidays are great. They allow you to try so many new things and see so many new places. But whilst making the most of what is on offer, it is absolutely vital that you know the best ways to stay safe throughout your time away.

Sailing holidays - reducing the risks

Of course, choosing a skippered yacht option for your sailing holiday means that you do not have to worry about staying safe when at sea. But when you are on land, it is worth remembering these tips to allow you to fully enjoy your vacation.

If you are something of a thrill-seeker, you may want to use your holiday to try something truly adventurous such as scuba diving or paragliding. And why not? But if you do, just make sure that you are with an accredited company and have qualified trainers to help you make the most of the experience.

Because sailing breaks allow you to visit lots of different places, getting your bearings can sometimes be something of a challenge. Whenever you visit somewhere new, it is a good idea to locate the nearest tourist information centre or to choose a central meeting point just in case you get separated from your group. Similarly, it is worth sticking to the advised walks and guided tours rather than just following your nose.

Of course, the best way to stay safe is simply to use your common sense. That way you can enjoy a fun-filled holiday to remember.
